This is one terrific collection of swamp style Blues, going by the subtitle of ” the complete singles collection A’s and B’s 1951-1958″ Guitar Slim, real name Eddie Jones – was an electric and flamboyant performer and his tone and showmanship inspired the likes of Buddy Guy and Albert Collins.
Guitar Slim was well known for his live shows featuring a 300 plus foot guitar cable so he could patrol the dance floor while ripping off impressive guitar leads and flirt with the ladies. His wardrobe of bright suits added another aspect to his on stage persona, and at times he would even dye his hair to match.
The sound production on these early sides is primitive at best – a bit nasal toned and lacking in midrange – but Slim remains clear and out front in the mix.
I am a huge Guitar Slim fan, and really enjoy this set!
