Bob Dylan was born Robert Zimmerman on May 24, 1941, in Duluth, Minnesota, and grew up in the town of Hibbing. Inspired by folk, blues, country, and early rock and roll, he moved to New York City in 1961 to immerse himself in the folk music scene.
Dylan emerged as one of the most important songwriters of the 1960s, writing songs that addressed social change, civil rights, war, and everyday life. His early classics include “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “The Times They Are A-Changin’,” “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right,” and “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall.”
In 1965, Dylan famously plugged in an electric guitar, helping reshape popular music with songs like “Like a Rolling Stone,” “Subterranean Homesick Blues,” and “Highway 61 Revisited.” His willingness to evolve artistically kept him influential across multiple decades.
Over a career spanning more than sixty years, Dylan released dozens of albums and wrote hundreds of songs that have been recorded by countless artists. His work has influenced generations of musicians in folk, rock, country, blues, and Americana.
Bob Dylan has received numerous honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, multiple Grammy Awards, and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016, becoming the first songwriter to receive the award. He is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential songwriters in modern history.
