What one of my customers had to say:
“Got a Robert Johnson painting as a gift last week, I immediately visited and bought my summer wardrobe – too cool” – Tommy V – Sparta, MI

Charley Patton (c. 1891–1934) stands as one of the founding figures of Delta blues, a powerful voice out of the Mississippi Delta whose influence echoes through nearly every corner of American roots music. Performing across plantations and juke joints, Patton combined raw, rhythmic guitar playing with a gravelly, commanding vocal style that could carry over a noisy room without amplification.

More than just a musician, he was an entertainer—playing behind his head, between his legs, and turning every performance into a spectacle. His songs, like “Pony Blues” and “High Water Everywhere,” captured the hardships, floods, and daily life of the Delta, blending storytelling with driving rhythms that laid the groundwork for generations to follow.

Mentor to artists like Son House and Howlin’ Wolf, Patton’s legacy is enormous, even though his recording career was brief. He remains a cornerstone of the blues, a true originator whose sound helped shape the music that followed.
