Freddie King (1934–1976) — Known as “The Texas Cannonball,” Freddie King was a powerhouse blues guitarist and singer whose fiery style bridged Texas grit and Chicago soul. Born in Gilmer, Texas, and raised in Dallas, King blended sharp, stinging leads with gospel-infused vocals, influencing generations of rock and blues artists. His 1961 hit “Hide Away” became a blues standard, and his energetic live shows earned him a spot among the “Three Kings” of blues guitar alongside B.B. and Albert King. Though his life was cut short at 42, Freddie King’s bold tone and stage charisma left an enduring mark on modern blues and rock music.
