What one of my customers had to say:
“I never thought anyone was a bigger fan of Lightnin Hopkins then i am… I might be wrong!” – Perry T. – Houma, LA
Sonny Terry: The High-Spirited Harmonica of the Piedmont Blues
Born Saunders Terrell in 1911 in Greensboro, Georgia, Sonny Terry became one of the most joyful and distinctive harmonica players in American blues. Blinded in childhood, he developed a powerful, whooping style that brought the Piedmont blues to life—full of train sounds, hollers, and foot-stomping rhythm. Partnered for decades with guitarist Brownie McGhee, Terry became a cornerstone of the mid-20th-century folk and blues revival, performing at major festivals and even appearing on Broadway and in films. His expressive harmonica made him a bridge between rural tradition and popular culture. Terry’s music remains a vibrant testament to blues resilience and joy.

Grego’s notes: “I have always loved Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee – the collaboration was straight up gold – and since I love acoustic and the folk movement, its a match made in heaven… I did a matching Brownie poster as well – had to make the set!”
