T-Model Ford: The Raw Spirit of the Delta Blues
Born James Lewis Carter Ford around 1920 in Forest, Mississippi, T-Model Ford embodied the grit, humor, and untamed energy of the Delta blues well into the 21st century. A late bloomer who didn’t pick up the guitar until his 70s, he became a cult favorite for his raw, driving style and tough-life storytelling. Recording for Fat Possum Records, albums like “Pee-Wee Get My Gun” and “You Better Keep Still” captured his rough-edged vocals, hypnotic grooves, and unfiltered attitude. Often backed by his drummer “Spam,” Ford toured relentlessly, earning fans across generations. Until his passing in 2013, he was living proof that the blues never dies—it just gets stronger with time.
